¿Sabíais que… ?

Brian - Ireland - June 2007

My name is Brian and i am from Ireland.
I volunteered in Pomacanchi in June 2007 and it was the one of the best experiences of my life.

I did not know what to expect at first as i had never been to South America, but the welcome i got from Giovanni and his family was amazing.
I stayed with them a day to acclimatise and went to the childrens home the next day.

At the time there were 35 children and they were all very happy to meet me. I brought lots of toys over and colouring books and pencils and jig-saws. They all wanted to know about me and play. They showed me all their games and had me skipping out on the street and playing football.
The people of Pomacanchi are lovely.

I taught an english lesson for one hour a day. Once you do the first one you're ok. We taught the children nursery rhymes at night and they really enjoyed that. We painted and made friendship bracelets with wool that costs very little there. And the children got hours of entertainment.

I basically had a lot of fun with each and every one of the children and wanted to take them home with me when I was going!! I made great friends with other volunteers and Giovanni, Vania and their family.
I also got to see some of the sights in Peru and I cannot wait to go back.
